When we believe in each other, when we believe in better, it actually improves the state. Byron's using fear and division. People across Florida now believe in each other again.

Context

Across Florida, people are seeing the same playbook from the opposition: fear, labels, division. This video names that tactic and offers the alternative.

What's said

David Jolly argues that the current political moment in Florida is not about economic theory or policy debates. It's about whether we choose to believe in each other or let fear and division define the state's future.

0:00 Look, I think Byron in many ways is a kind of a corporate candidate, a playbook candidate, a consultant candidate. And you're seeing the same ads that Byron's running in Florida. You're seeing Republicans run in Texas and in Iowa and in Michigan. And it's the same language.
0:15 And look, they're throwing around labels about, let's say, socialism or communism, right? They're not litigating economic theory. Most of them can't even describe the economic theory they're using to accuse candidates of promoting. What they're doing is trying to scare people. And I think if there's a kind of a personal invective where people across Florida should be disappointed in Byron Donalds is he's not actually litigating policy.
0:34 He's not litigating economic theory. He's trying to scare you. Byron Donalds is trying to scare the people of Florida. He's using fear. He's using division. And it's ugly. And the good news is, this cycle, it's not working.
0:51 The more he goes on TV screaming about the labels and trying to scare us and divide us, the worse his numbers get. Because people do believe in something better. In this moment, we're believing in each other again. And, you know, when my wife and I say believe in better, that's what this campaign is now about. Who are we as a people?
1:05 Yeah, as a people, when we believe in each other, when we believe in the fair state of Florida, that means we improve housing, health care, education, investments in the environment, clean water, clean air, sure, safe communities. But what it means is we're actually fighting for an economy that works for everybody, a state that lifts everybody up.
1:22 When we believe in each other, when we respect each other, when we believe in better, it actually improves the state. Byron's using fear and division. He's telling us not to trust each other. The problem for Byron is people across Florida now believe in each other again. They're believing in our campaign.
1:40 We're just part of a broad coalition that is emerging, that is redefining American politics. And it's starting right here in Florida. It's starting by believing in better.

Related questions

Why does the campaign focus on believing in each other instead of traditional policy arguments?

Because politics has spent too long dividing people over labels and slogans. When Floridians believe in each other, they actually improve housing, healthcare, education, and the economy for everyone. See the video at 1:05 for the full case.

What does the campaign mean by "believe in better"?

It means choosing to trust each other over fear. It means building an economy that works for everybody, not just the well-connected. It means knowing that Florida can lift everyone up if we stop letting fear define the conversation.

How is this different from typical campaign messaging?

Most campaigns run the same playbook in every state. Same labels. Same fear tactics. This campaign is naming that playbook and asking Floridians to reject it. People are tired of being scared into voting. They want to believe in something again.

What coalition is the campaign building?

A coalition of people who are done with division. Different backgrounds. Different beliefs. Same understanding that fear and labels are not policy. This coalition is redefining Florida politics by putting people over party.

Hard work should be enough.
